I built a Chrome Extension for Substack discovery
I built a tiny piece of software that I’m finding really useful. It’s called Substack Link Hover.
One of the things I love about Substack is, writers on here generally link a lot to other Substack’s. It’s a great way to discovery new writers, and just generally stumble upon great writing.
As I’m reading a piece though, I feel the temptation to right click on every link I see in the post to save it for later, but this distracts me from the reading, which I don’t like, so I built a Chrome extension that quickly scans for all Substack links on the page, presents them in a nice list, summarises the stats and even generates a short 240-character summary, if you add in your own OpenAI API key.
Now, I read the post, and when I’m done, I can just go and click out to all the follow up posts I want to read. A nice bonus is that, this same idea works anywhere you see a Substack link on your screen, anywhere on the web, you just hover on it and get a preview before clicking.
You can download and try it out here: https://substack-link-hover.pages.dev/
